Bio
Bio Weeding asparagus. That was my first job after completing the course work required for a double major in math and English from SMS in the spring of 1963. That summer I worked the fruit/vegetable harvest in the CA's central valley. I returned to Columbia where I did graduate work, sold shoes at Sears, and met Judi. After leaving MU, I taught for two years before taking a night class in FORTRAN programming. With my newly acquired computer expertise, I landed a job with a company which was in the processes of acquiring an NCR computer with 5 K of memory and a footprint the size of a two car garage. I was hired as their Data Processing Manager. In addition to this, I was also the computer room janitor. During this time, we had our only child, Laura. After three years with the real estate company, I went to work for McDonnell Douglas Automation Company in St. Louis. Two years later we moved to Jefferson City where I was DP Manger for the MO Dept of Health. While in JC I became a licensed glider pilot. I also I worked for five plus years inside the walls of the men's maximum security prison in Jefferson City setting up a programming unit and later a work release program. When the state decided they had too many DP Managers, I became a Data Base Administrator. After two years working as a DBA, I went to work for Citi Bank. CB was in the process of moving their credit card operations from NY to South Dakota. The upside of this job was that I spent the better part of four months working in the NYC area. The down side was that I ended up in SD where the winters were brutal. After two winters in SD, I got a call from my old boss in Missouri. She had taken a job in Oklahoma and wanted to know if I would be interested in moving to a warmer climate. Having recently experienced a two week period when the high had been 10 below and the wind chill reached 90 below, her offer was too appealing to turn down. When I arrived in OKC in February of 1984, people were wearing shorts and were out washing their cars. Judi and I worked for the State of OK for 20+ years. I was DHS' DBA with responsibility for data base administration and data security. Judi worked in Child Support Enforcement and was responsible for collection and policy development. Over the years our hobbies have been collecting stuff (with an emphasis on old books, clocks, and watches). Early on in our time in OKC, I purchased a complete set of watchmaker's tools from a retired watchmaker and spent every Thursday evening for one year working with him on watches. For the last ten years, our priority has been my grandsons - 10 year old Samuel and 8 year old Pete. Since retiring five years ago, we have added traveling to our list of priorities. We just got back from a trip to the US/Canadian Rockies and are now planning our annual driving trip (2,000+ miles) into central Mexico. Last year we did Mexico and South America.
